Summary
The Giant Trance is a versatile trail bike praised for its excellent suspension performance, particularly the Maestro system, which offers great traction and efficiency. It features updated geometry that enhances stability and capability on descents, while maintaining strong climbing abilities. Overall, it provides good value with a solid frame and smart component choices, though some builds may require cockpit adjustments.
Excellent suspension performance with great traction and efficiency
Versatile frame capable for both trail and aggressive riding
Good value for money with high-quality components
Updated geometry for improved stability and handling
Strong climbing abilities with minimal pedal bob
Stock cockpit setup often needs upgrades like shorter stem and wider bars
Some builds have underperforming forks or tires lacking grip
Low bottom bracket height can lead to pedal strikes
Not as playful or confidence-inspiring on rough descents as some competitors
this is clearly one of the best deals of the year—same high-end frame, full kit…just four hundred more bucks. No brainer
Lower, longer and slacker, the new Trance’s geometry is designed for charging hard
The plush Maestro rear end is Giant’s super power, feeling far more potent than the 140 mm of travel would suggest.
An absolute rocket. Hands down the fastest climber I rode in the entire test. Zero pedal induced bob. Zippy out of the saddle acceleration.

We think this is the best value mountain bike on the market today. Read on to find out why… The 2017 Trance 1 is flagged as the quintessential “do-everything” Trail bike. It is a dedicated 27.5” (650B) machine and comes spec’d with all the goodies advanced mountain bikers crave; carbon wheels, a complete Shimano Deore XT 1×11 drivetrain, XT brakes and quality Fox suspension units front and rear. Without a doubt this is the only ‘17 Trail bike with a […]

Choosing the right bike is a seriously tough decision. Ideally you would need at least six bikes to have it covered, right? But we also know that often reality has other plans, so it’s back to the drawing board, and deciding on the perfect steed that will do all the things you wish. In the …
So light.
Stellar Shimano XT.
Top-shelf FOX suspension.
Do-it-all ride anywhere ability.
Sturdy descender.
Narrow rims hold the bike back on rougher trails.

There are carbon frames that cost nearly as much as this bike–Giant's least expensive carbon Trance. So what's the catch? Are the parts crap?

Giant Trance Advanced 27.5 2 review
Rock-solid durability and reliability meant that with even minimal servicing the Trance was always ready to go
Suspension is easy to set up and get to a good place, but there’s more potential in the shock tuning
Long, slack geometry makes it a very capable bike on more demanding trails
The Trance really needs a shorter stem and wider handlebar out of the box to support the capability of the frame and geometry
The Overdrive 2 tapered head tube — thankfully it’s been dropped on 2015 bikes as it severely limited stem choice
A carbon frame is nice, but eats massively into the budget and the finishing kit, wheels and suspension take a hit

With sorted suspension and brilliant kit for the cash, this sets a benchmark for top end trail value
