Summary
The Giant Anthem is celebrated for its ultra-decisive steering, stable and surefooted demeanor, and playful nature, making it a standout in the cross-country category. Its Maestro suspension system is praised for consistent control and smooth comfort, though some note it can feel soft under hard power. The bike offers great value, especially in lower-tier models, with a light, racing-stiff package that doesn't compromise on fun or performance.
Ultra-decisive steering
Stable and surefooted demeanor
Playful nature for an XC race bike
Maestro suspension system for smooth comfort
Great value in lower-tier models
Maestro suspension can feel soft under hard power
Higher price points may be prohibitive for some
Some components may feel dated in certain builds
This cutthroat cross-country whip took my preconceptions about XC race bikes and hacked them into a cool puddle of blood.
The great-looking Anthem Advanced SX has some features that many cross country bikes may not possess, especially at this price point.
The Giant Anthem’s ALUXX SL frame is the ultra thin-walled equivalent of alloy porcelain and Giant only lets its best welders work on the pressure formed tubes.

Take a dedicated XC racer, corrupt them with hamburgers, air-time and baggy shorts, and introduce them to the Anthem Advanced SX – the perfect bike for a cross country racer gone a little wild. The Anthem Advanced SX takes Giant’s incredibly popular Anthem platform, then gives it a bit of a shake up with the addition of a swathe …
Fun, but fast.
Well finished frame.
Excellent overall spec, especially wheels and drivetrain.
Low weight to play ratio!
Fork is a little out-dated.
Saddle is below par.
