Reviews

Summary

The Ghost SL trail bike family receives mixed reviews, praised for its plush rear suspension, efficient climbing, and stable handling in challenging sections, but criticized for frame flex, power transfer issues, and a sub-par fork performance. Its geometry and component specs cater to riders preferring traditional over modern long-and-low designs.

Pros
  • Plush rear suspension with Cane Creek DB inline coil shock

  • Efficient climbing with minimal pedal-bob

  • Stable and confident handling in challenging sections

  • Smart component spec appealing to traditional geometry fans

  • Aesthetically pleasing design

Cons
  • Noticeable frame flex affecting power transfer and tracking

  • Sub-par performance from the SR SUNTOUR AION suspension fork

  • Rattling cables and limited dropper seat post drop

  • Geometry not aligned with current trends of longer reach and slacker angles

Ghost’s new trail 29er is deliberately designed to be a smooth cruiser, but precision and power transfer losses make the ‘SLAMR’ more of a ‘SLMBR’ on the trail.

MBR
Ghost SL AMR 6.7 AL: first ride review - MBR

Apr 2019 · Paul Burwell

Coil-sprung suspension combines attitude and aptitude but is the Ghost SL AMR 6.7 AL's extra weight compensated for by better performance?

Highs
  • Coil shock offers impressive ride performance, nippy handling, great value.

Lows
  • It’s next to impossible to get to the rebound on the rear shock, dropper doesn’t full insert into the frame, minimal traction/grip from the semi-slick rear tyre.

Ghost SL AMR 6.7 review

Apr 2019 · Tom Marvin

7 is one of few ‘trail’ bikes on the market with a coil rear shock, and while the addition of a steel spring counts towards its near 15kg weight, it also accounts for the supremely smooth feel through the back end.. .

Highs
  • One of the smoothest back ends around, super fun to ride

Lows
  • Rather heavy, fork can feel under-gunned

GHOST SL AMR X 5.9 AL review

May 2018 · Christoph Bayer

GHOST has presented the new GHOST SL AMR X as the antithesis of marketing hype and hot air. The bike's stand-out feature is its coil shock on the rear. But does this concept work on a trail bike, and will it make the SL AMR X the ultimate all-purpose weapon?
