Summary
The Genesis Tarn is celebrated as a highly competent and entertaining trail hardtail, offering a surprisingly comfortable ride with its plus-size tyres and seamless double butted cromoly steel frame. It excels in mixed trail riding, balancing a lively feel for technical sections with stability on descents. While it's praised for its modern geometry and the inclusion of a dropper post, some reviewers note the tyres may not suit all UK conditions and the bike's weight could be a drawback.

The Genesis Tarn is a refreshingly different take on the UK trail hardtail, with a combination of chubby 2.8” Plus rubber, a zingy steel frame and more stretched out geometry for 2017. If you’re willing to take a punt on something a little out of the ordinary, it’s a highly competent and entertaining ride, but do budget for some more aggressive tyres for soft conditions. Expanding its range, sorting its sizing and making the best of Plus-size tyres — Genesis Tarn 20 is another trail-ripping hardtail from Genesis.
It has everything you need from a true trail ripper. Plus-size tyres deliver a surprisingly comfortable ride.
It’s not lightweight by any means, but going tubeless should drop the weight by almost 500g. With the refocused sizing, the 60mm stem seems too long for what this bike is capable of.

Last year the Genesis Tarn made quite an impression with its ‘from the future’ long front-end geometry and bulbous plus-sized tyres.
