Summary
The Evil Following is celebrated as a trail bike that combines agility, speed, and fun, with its DELTA linkage suspension system providing exceptional climbing efficiency and descending capability. Reviews highlight its playful nature, precision handling, and the ability to perform beyond its travel numbers, making it a standout in the trail bike category. Despite some critiques on geometry and setup, the Following is praised for its versatility and performance across a variety of terrains.
Magically supportive DELTA linkage
Best-climbing trail bike of the year
Punchy climber with lighter tire spec
Precision and control maintained
More comfortable outside its comfort zone with new rear shock
Seat angle no slacker than average, not ultra-steep
e*thirteen TRS treads not light and sensitive on uphills
Shorter, steeper geometry makes it less stable than contemporaries
Relatively short frame warranty
The original Evil Following was so far ahead of its time, it hasn’t needed a remodel since it was introduced in 2014.
The Delta system still provides probably the best short-travel suspension around for attacking technical trails.
One of the most exciting 29er trail bikes on the market, balancing speed and fun perfectly

Third-generation Evil Following includes a jutting jawline that’s sharper-edged, a seat tube brace for improved standover clearance and internal cabling.
Agility overload, combined with float-then-pop suspension.
Super Boost 157 is a headache for frame-only buyers.

It’s mid-August, and the dirt on our trails in Bellingham, Washington is as dry as it gets. At this time of year, the tires roll faster than ever—making it the perfect time to test Evil’s newly updated The Following, the company’s shortest-travel, 29-inch-wheeled bike. With such high-speed trail conditions, The Following truly comes into its own. From the moment my tires hit the dirt, I felt like I was being propelled by a perpetual tailwind. With 120 millimeters of rear-wheel travel and a lightweight build, this bike is clearly designed for speed. But when you pair a bike in this travel range with Evil’s ultra-supportive DELTA-link suspension platform, you have a combination that begs for a strong cadence. From the moment I started pedaling The Following I felt possessed by its demonic, speedy nature. The large frame I tested really hit a sweet spot for me. The 480-millimeter reach didn’t feel as long as that length might suggest, and the cockpit sizing was perfect for conquering tight switchbacks and pulling the occasional wheelie. The seated position felt rear of center, which translated to an efficient pedaling position that enabled me to really lay down the wattage. At the same time, the combination of a 430-millimeter chainstay and the shorter, 120 millimeters of travel on the RockShox Pike Ultimate Charger 2.1 RC2 fork helped to keep the front wheel on the ground during steeper climbs. Much like Evil’s The Wreckoning, which I recently tested, The Following feels incredibly neutral when hammering out of the saddle. There’s just enough anti-squat to combat the weight transfer.

Evil’s Following set a new standard for short travel, big attitude 29er trail bikes but how does it compare to the latest contenders? Guy Kesteven has been hitting the moors, Enduro tracks and off-piste black runs of Yorkshire to find out.
Insanely controlled and speed-hungry suspension with addictively agile handling
Comparatively good price for a premium brand and sorted spec
Shorter, steeper geometry makers it less stable than contemporaries
Relatively short frame warranty

One of the most exciting 29er trail bikes on the market, balancing speed and fun perfectly
Suspension feels deeper and more sensitive than on most 120mm bikes, but never gets too spongy
Absolutely rails turns in the X-Low bottom bracket position
Slack seat angle needs updating
More tyre clearance than previous Evils, but it still isn’t what a UK rider would call generous

The Evil Following MB has upped the game with the same 120mm of rear travel, but 20mm more reach. But in today’s increasingly aggressive landscape can it still hold its own? - Mtbr.com

Times have changed a lot. The Following has changed a little. As its name implies, it simply got more better.
