Reviews

Summary

The Devinci Chainsaw is a downhill-focused bike that excels in aggressive riding scenarios, offering a robust design, high-pivot suspension for better obstacle clearance, and a geometry that inspires confidence on steep descents. While it shines in downhill performance and offers good value for its components, it faces criticism for its climbing efficiency and some spec inconsistencies.

Pros
  • High-pivot suspension design for better obstacle clearance

  • Confidence-inspiring geometry on steep descents

  • Good value for components included

  • Manufactured in Canada with a lifetime warranty

  • Versatile configurations for gravity-focused riders

Cons
  • Lacklustre climbing performance

  • Inconsistent spec

  • Requires great physical effort on narrow, technical trails

  • Front tire lacks traction and is puncture-prone

  • Increased friction due to idler pulley

Review: Devinci Chainsaw - Primed for the Bike Park

Jul 2023 · Matt Beer

The gravity-oriented Chainsaw can be build up in a variety of configurations.

Highs
  • Eats bumps without feeling glued to the ground at all times.

  • Excellent value, Canadian-made frame.

  • Versatile configurations for gravity focused riders.

Lows
  • Climbing is a chore; no lockout on shock, short dropper, cramped seat position, pulley friction.

  • The G2 RE brakes hold back the Chainsaw’s descending capabilities.

  • Rocker link pivots loosened on occasion.

Bike Review | Devinci Chainsaw

Jun 2023 · Spencer Astra

The all-new Devinci Chainsaw GX 12S bears the name of Canadian mountain biking legend, the late Stevie “Chainsaw” Smith. Carrying his legacy—Smith remains the only Canadian to ever land on the podium at a UCI Mountain Bike World Downhill Championship event—and embracing his riding spirit is a bold undertaking. We chatted with Sports and Product Marketing Manager, Bastien Major, who spoke to the importance of the Chainsaw namesake, "Stevie had such a big impact on the Canadian cycling scene and on all of us here at Devinci. Naming the Chainsaw after himself was to keep his spirit alive, carry his legacy, and make sure he would always be remembered as one of the greatest.", Devinci partnered with the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation to create this aluminum alloy frame welded in Canada which, they say, aims to inspire shredders of all levels to find their joy in riding.
