Denago eXC2 E-Bike Review, 2024

Feb 2024 · John S. Bozick

A value-packed entry-to-mid-level eMTB with a powerful and responsive motor. Denago truly jumped into the eMTB world with both feet; on one side is the basic, entry-level eXC1, while on the other is the upgraded, higher-tier eXC2. We were highly satisfied when we reviewed the lower-tier model separately, so we expected nothing but good from

Highs
  • We liked the powerful feel and climbing ability of Bafang’s most robust 250W M510 mid-drive.

  • Stands as a complete upgrade over the eXC1 for its price between $3k and $3,500 with its more powerful motor, higher-capacity battery, dropper post, sturdier suspension, and more!

  • Great geometry for practical trail use (shared with Denago’s eXC1).

  • Comes in three frame sizes for a more precise fit, which isn’t always possible at entry-level prices.

  • Responsive handling with controlled steering thanks to the 29×2.4” Maxxis Rekon Race tires and 740mm/780mm handlebars.

  • Includes a colorful, easy to read display with tons of ride data.

  • Fully equipped with good entry-to-mid-level components that can be upgraded if/when needed.

Lows
  • The eXC2’s motor output pauses briefly when shifting. It picks up faster than the eXC1, but we’d still like to be able to deactivate this feature.

Denago eXC1 E-Bike Review, 2024

Jan 2024 · John S. Bozick

A budget-friendly but powerful entry-level eMTB with tons of upgrade potential. It’s not uncommon for entry-level e-bikes to feel like entry-level e-bikes – especially out on the trails. Fortunately for those seeking an affordable starting point to cross country mountain biking, the Denago eXC1 does the job right! We tested the bike on paved paths

Highs
  • The mid-drive motor was more powerful and smooth than we expected at this price point. We really liked the 250W Bafang M410!

  • Solid value with its price between $2,500 and $3,000.

  • The bike feels great on trails thanks to its comfortable and appropriate geometry (reach, head tube, and seat tube angles).

  • Great stability and control from the 740mm (Medium) or 780mm handlebars (Large and XL).

  • Includes solid entry-level components that can be upgraded over time (if you want/need) given the frame quality.

  • Simple operation with only a small button panel that shows PAS setting and battery charge.

  • Good traction and improved comfort over bumps from the 29”x2.4” Maxxis Ardent tires.

Lows
  • We liked the feel of the motor overall, but the pause in output when shifting takes some getting used to.

  • The simplicity of the bike’s interface felt appropriate, but the blue PAS indicator lights are difficult to see.

Denago Cruiser 1 Step-Thru Review, 2023

Sep 2023 · Forrest Woolman

An ultra-affordable cruiser that uses simple design for classic look with easy-to-ride appeal There was something rather refreshing about the Dengao Cruiser 1 Step-Thru we were sent in to review. Cruiser electric bikes tend to be heavier and cost more than comparable urban bikes, which begs the question: where do you find a cruiser that’s

Highs
  • Ideal for the rider who wants a low cost cruiser with a simple design and classic look.

  • Classic cruiser feel with a comfortable upright posture and mustache handlebar.

  • Easier bike to lift onto a rack for transportation; easier to maneuver the light 55 lb bike when riding.

  • Charges quicker so you can ride sooner, thanks to the 3-amp fast charger and 11Ah battery.

  • Impressive speed and hill climbing capability from a modest 350W motor and 36v battery.

  • Easy shifting with the Shimano RevoShift and 7-speed gearing.

  • Step-through frame makes it easy for anyone to hop on and off and enjoy riding this bike.

Lows
  • This bike only comes in one size, limiting its usability for taller riders.

  • With the angle of the handlebar sweep in mind, using the grip shifter and twist grip throttle over longer rides might wear out those with sensitize wrists. Not something to write the bike off for, but know it going into it.

Denago Folding Model 1 E-Bike Review, 2024

Jun 2023 · John S. Bozick

It’s fast! It folds! It flies uphill! Denago delivers another fun and functional e-bike with the Folding Model 1. Riders who might be short on space shouldn’t have to sacrifice in order to get an e-bike with power, performance, and functionality! To determine if the Denago Folding Model 1 lived up to the high bar

Highs
  • A speedy bike with good acceleration! As a Class 3 e-bike with a 500W motor, the Folding 1 can zoom effortlessly up to 25 mph.

  • Able to tackle hills with ease! For us, the bike demonstrated great hill climbing even in PAS 2.

  • Super quick folding! The mechanism on the Folding 1 is one of the fastest we’ve seen. Denago advertises just 30 seconds from start to finish.

  • Accommodates riders between 5’-1” and 6’-5” despite having just a single frame size!

  • Includes a functional accessory package! With lights, fenders, and a rear cargo rack with a bamboo deck, the Folding 1 comes well-equipped.

Lows
  • We love the Denago 1’s ability to go fast and climb hills, but we’d prefer to see a more sensitive cadence sensor for quicker motor re-engagement.

  • The Folding 1’s extended plastic stem helps the bike to fit tall riders, but we’d like to see a less flexible component for crisper handling.
