Summary

The Commençal Supreme excels in downhill and enduro performance with its innovative HPP suspension system, providing exceptional bump absorption, stability, and grip on rough terrain. However, it can feel heavy and less efficient on flatter trails, with some models experiencing pedal kickback. It is praised for its value and race-ready capabilities but may not suit all riders due to its specialized nature.

Pros
  • Incredible bump taming and high-speed performance

  • Innovative HPP suspension design for stability and grip

  • Good value with solid components

  • Available in multiple wheel sizes for versatility

  • Ready for racing out of the box

Cons
  • Heavy and draggy when pedaling

  • Short reach and less playful handling

  • Pedal kickback in some models

  • Requires adaptation to maximize performance

  • Not suitable for all terrains or rider preferences

Key Quotes
The capacity of the rear end to swallow up punishment is gob smacking.

It’s a bike that finds it easy to make up speed in rough areas all with unparalleled stability. It’s trademark: speed.

Charging into rough rock gardens and braking bumps is unreal - I tried a section in Pila faster and faster, and the Supreme was the first bike I have ever ridden that genuinely became easier to handle the harder I pushed it.

Review: Commencal's Supreme DH 29 is an Unflinching Race Weapon

Jul 2018 · Paul Aston

The Supreme was ready to ride out of the box, I changed down a spring weight on the Fox DHX2 shock from 450lb to 400lb, pumped up the fork to 76psi, opened up most of the compression front and rear, and set the rebound on the fast side with a couple of extra clicks on the shock's HSR to for a little more control under big hits..

Highs
  • Unbeatable bump and high-speed performance

  • Ready to go racing out of the box

  • Great price and specification

Lows
  • Requires some adaptation to get the best out of the bike

  • Falls off chairlifts and shuttle trailers and might not fit in your car or garage

  • May make you ride too fast for your own safety

Commencal Supreme DH V4 World Cup review

Dec 2016 · Jon Woodhouse

Mind blowing rough terrain performance, but it could do with a bit more length and a diet. Buy if you want to hit the roughest and toughest descents and don’t care about pedalling performance

Highs
  • Incredible bump taming performance with a solid parts package

Lows
  • Short reach, draggy when pedalling and rather hefty too
