Going back to a hardtail – even one with progressive geometry like the Primer – required patience. The payoff was well worth it.
Progressive geometry with 65-degree head angle and long reach
Efficient climber despite weight and fat tires
Snappy out of corners
Carries momentum well
Steel frame provides subtle flex for comfort
DT Swiss Spline ONE wheels are stiff but not harsh and remain true
Fox 36 fork provides good compliance and progressivity
Shimano XTR drivetrain shifts perfectly
Shimano XTR brakes are powerful and consistent
Race Face Turbine dropper post works flawlessly in cold weather
Chromag OSX bar and HiFi stem offer quick steering and precise feel
Heavy wheelset with 3.0 tires limits acceleration
WTB Bridger tires have only so-so grip on rock and limited cornering edge traction
Rough terrain causes hand and ankle fatigue
Technical climbs require high concentration and precise line choice
Long front end feels not nimble for quick side-to-side transitions
