What terrified me most about reviewing the Canfield Balance was its potential to expose me as a total fraud. Or at least an apparent fraud. On one count, with 27.5-inch wheels, 169 mm of travel, a 170 mm fork and geometry that reads like that of a light freeride bike, the capabilities of this bike have the potential to exceed my own. In addition, over the last decade, I’ve written countless reviews glorifying the benefits of today’s sculpted high-tech carbon fiber superbikes, but the Balance’s alloy frame has none of that.
