BULLS Alpine Hawk EVO Review, 2021 | Electric Bike, Ebikes, Electric Bicycles, E Bike, Reviews

Jun 2021 · Sam Gross

In our BULLS Alpine Hawk Evo review we test the battery life, hill climbing ability, brakes and more to show you what this e-bike is capable of doing on the road.

Highs
  • We’ve been very impressed with the Fazua drivepack. It’s relatively light, quiet and is incredibly responsive.

  • This bike is incredibly compliant over rough roads; BULLS clearly had comfort in mind and built a bike that doesn’t sacrifice comfort for performance.

  • The full Ultegra 11-speed groupset (plus the matching hydraulic disc brakes) works spectacularly well and compliments the do-it-all, ride-it-anywhere spirit of this bike.

  • At just 33.5 lbs, this bike pedals really well even with the motor turned off. We tested it quite a bit with no pedal assistance and it just felt like a normal road bike.

Lows
  • The minimalist touchpad remote on the downtube took some getting used to, and was a bit of a throwback to the days of downtube shifters. However it does keep the cockpit very clean and simple.

  • The Alpine Hawk is only available in two sizes — a 54 cm frame and 58 cm, which is pretty limited in the road bike world. It would be great to see more sizes so riders can more finely tune their fits.

Price: $5799.00 | Model Year: 2020, 2021 | One of the lightest electric bikes I've tested; carbon fiber frame, fork, and seat post reduce weight while dampening vibration for comfort; available in three sizes with matching crank arms, stem, and handlebar for optimal fit

Observations
  • One of the lightest electric bikes I've tested; carbon fiber frame, fork, and seat post reduce weight while dampening vibration for comfort; available in three sizes with matching crank arms, stem, and handlebar for optimal fit

  • Premium hydraulic disc brakes are easy to actuate in the drops or hood handlebar position, they use Shimano ICE TECH calipers with heat sinks built-in and the 160mm FREEZA rotors are specifically designed to reduce heat... and they look cool

  • Upgraded Schwalbe Durano tires feature RaceGuard puncture protection, both wheels are connected via 12mm thru-axles for increased strength and have quick release for easy removal; you can completely remove the motor and battery Drivepack and replace with an optional Downtube Cover to ride this as an acoustic bicycle at roughly 26lbs vs. 33lbs with the ebike systems

  • Relatively high price tag, Fazua motor is weaker than most competing products and the battery is about half the size, battery must be removed for charging and downtube Drivepack must be opened to physically power the system up after eight hours if bike is not being used
