Cyclocross season is upon us. Do you need a dedicated cyclocross race bike? We put the Bombtrack Tension C to the test.
Race-ready out of the box with a great starting weight and spec that requires no upgrade
Light and nimble as a cyclocross race bike should be
Fits wide enough tires (up to 42mm) to be a great all-road, mixed-terrain bike in the cyclocross off-season
Sufficient tire clearance (37mm max specified, but fits 42mm without issue)
Damps vibration reasonably well; feels lively when accelerating
Higher bottom bracket helps avoid pedal strikes
Easy tubeless setup on stock wheels
Includes cassette with 36-tooth cog for lower gearing
Front wheel gets deflected by bumps on rough terrain; requires adjustment
Narrow tires and low trail make soft surfaces like sand challenging
Stock Hunt wheelset is heavy; weight savings possible with lighter wheels
SRAM DoubleTap shifting mechanism not a personal favorite
Not ideal for very muddy conditions due to limited mud clearance
Geared towards European market with 33mm tire restrictions; may not suit all US courses
