Cyclocross season is upon us. Do you need a dedicated cyclocross race bike? We put the Bombtrack Tension C to the test.

Highs

  • Lightweight (18.5 lbs as tested)

  • Race-ready out of the box

  • Classic cyclocross geometry with quick steering

  • Vibration damping from carbon frame

  • Lively acceleration out of turns and climbs

  • Higher bottom bracket reduces pedal strikes

  • 37mm tire clearance; can fit 42mm for off-season use

  • T47 bottom bracket and internal routing

  • Hunt wheels easy to set up tubeless

  • 11-36 cassette provides low gear for mere mortals

Lows

  • Front wheel deflection on bumpy terrain due to low trail geometry

  • Narrow tires sink in soft surfaces (sand)

  • Descending requires careful weight placement

  • Hunt wheelset is heavy for race wheels

  • SRAM DoubleTap shifting not reviewer's personal favorite

  • No mud clearance with 37mm tires
