Oct 2020 · Benjamin Topf

Hardly any other German brand has made such a name for itself in the international bikepacking scene as Bombtrack. The Hook 2 combines features from numerous disciplines, including a big portion of bikepacking DNA. Is that enough to hold its own against the competition?

  • Riding position

  • Bombproof!

Dec 2019 · Cass Gilbert

After Bombtracks’ Groundwork event, Cass borrows a Bombtrack Hook EXT and takes it bikepacking in Germany, Belgium, England, and Wales for this review...

Highs
  • Engaging handling that’s fun unladen or with a light load

  • All the needs of a bikepacker catered for

  • Surpringly capable off road

  • Compliant frame and fork with tyre clearance that’s fit for purpose

  • Good looking finish with real attention to detail

  • Solid, reliable parts including powerful hydraulic brakes

Lows
  • A little on the pricey side

  • Gearing is too high for hilly bikepacking routes

  • Lowish front end may irk tall and leggy cyclists who like to be more upright

Bombtrack Hook 2 review

Jan 2016 · Matthew Loveridge

A pleasant all-rounder that’s priced on the high side, and isn’t as versatile as it could be. Buy if you want an elegant steel all-roader and you’re not counting grams

Highs
  • Looks, smooth ride quality, top notch wheels

Lows
  • Weighty, over-geared, expensive, and not quite the swiss army knife it claims
