Summary
The BMC Agonist is a cross-country bike that blends speed and endurance, offering a stable and efficient ride with a modern, aggressive geometry. It's praised for its suspension performance, which provides a good balance between comfort and support, though some note the rear suspension's progressive nature can limit full travel. The bike's design is elegant and functional, with neat cable routing and thoughtful updates, but the lack of a stock dropper post and some component choices have been points of contention.
Stable and efficient ride with modern, aggressive geometry
Good suspension balance between comfort and support
Elegant design with neat cable routing and thoughtful updates
Comfortable at speed and efficient on climbs
Rear suspension's progressive nature can limit full travel
Lack of a stock dropper post
Some component choices and setup issues
The BMC Agonist is more evidence that the world of XC is changing.
BMC’s suspension is particularly sorted in this regard and it almost feels like it could do away with the complication and weight of the remote lockout system altogether.
Cross Country pedigree but with a persuasion towards endurance is the target of the Agonist.

May 2020 · Alex Evans
A capable bike that's at home on a wide range of trails but let down by its tyres and limited by its geometry
Great suspension that hits a good balance between comfort, grip and support
It responds well to a heels down descending style and surges forward on the climbs
Terrible tyres and a slacker than preferable seat tube angle that caused some setup issues

XC courses are getting more technical so BMC addresses the category with a very fast and capable machine. And it's comfortable enough to handle the long courses of Leadville and Downieville. - Mtbr.com
