Summary

The BMC Speedfox is a trail bike that stands out for its innovative Trailsync system, integrating dropper post and rear shock control for a cleaner cockpit and simplified riding experience. It's praised for its efficient climbing, stable handling, and suspension performance, though some riders may find its geometry and dropper post limitations less ideal for technical terrain. The bike's unique features and performance make it a strong contender for epic rides and races, despite some first-generation compromises.

Pros
  • Innovative Trailsync system integrates dropper post and rear shock control

  • Efficient climber with stable and sure-footed handling

  • Clean cockpit with fewer cables

  • Automatically adjusts suspension settings with saddle height

  • Durable frame and high-quality components

Cons
  • Limited dropper post travel and proprietary system restrict customization

  • Geometry may feel short and steep on technical terrain

  • Initial setup requires cutting the seatpost

  • Higher price point for Trailsync technology

  • Some riders may prefer more travel or slacker angles

Best of all, you’re never going to drop into a descent and forget to open your shock again, because as soon as you drop your saddle height the rear suspension is already in the correct mode.

It’s not geometry on the BMC Speedfox 02 that’s revolutionary, it’s the new integrated dropper post that changes shock settings as you change saddle height.

Highs
  • Innovative design approach with integration that makes life easier.

  • 55mm stems on all sizes.

Lows
  • Head angle could be slacker.

  • BB could be lower.

  • Seat angle could be steeper.

The Speedfox is a very capable steed with 120mm front and rear travel. With a dropper post integral to this ride, BMC designed a system that opens the rear shock when it's down and puts it in Trail mode when it's up. - Mtbr.com

BMC Speedfox with TrailSync first ride review

Jun 2017 · Seb Stott

This is ideal for super technical climbs or lumpy traverses, but when spinning along rough fire-roads I did find myself wishing I could have a fully open shock and a fully extended seatpost simultaneously — the medium height is too low for prolonged pedalling, and the suspension is occasionally too harsh with the seat fully extended.. .
