Summary
The Basso Palta is a fast and agile gravel bike that excels on mixed surfaces, offering a smooth and comfortable ride with excellent climbing and descending capabilities. It features a lightweight and aero-optimized frameset, though some components like tires and shifters may detract from the experience. Overall, it's well-suited for endurance racing and riders transitioning from road to gravel.
Fast and efficient performance with excellent acceleration and climbing
Smooth and comfortable ride quality across various terrains
Lightweight and aero-optimized frameset with high-quality build
Agile and responsive handling, similar to a road bike
Improved comfort and compliance compared to previous models
Stock tires perform poorly, especially in mud or rough conditions
Shift feel can be slack or plasticky, with potential reliability issues
Limited tire clearance below some competitors' standards
Lack of mounting points for bikepacking or luggage
Some minor component issues like fragile headset caps or peeling protection
Whoever specced the tires needs to go and stand in a corner and think about what they did
The Basso Palta is an enjoyable, fun bike to ride.
the Palta II is going to do an excellent impersonation of a road bike if you need that cross-over
a comfortable companion on the road, but it’s a giddy child when you switch to gravel, begging for faster and further, reminding you of the fun you had as a youth, and pushing you a little too close for comfort at times. But you wouldn’t have it any other way.
