TESTED: Banshee Phantom V3

Dec 2020

In the interest of complete transparency, I must begin this review by revealing that this is my personal mountain bike, one that I paid for and built up myself. Before explaining why I did what I did, it helps to have a little background. Banshee Bikes was born in 2002, a product of British Columbia’s North Shore, where progressive, technical trails helped propel mountain biking in its next great leap forward in design and engineering. It was a pioneering time, when going big redefined what mountain bikes (and riders) were capable of. After 20 years, Banshee continues to innovate and push the envelope of design and engineering. While much has changed, it’s still a small company managed by four full-time employees, all of them dedicated riders.

Banshee Phantom GX

Nov 2017

Banshee's aluminium framed Phantom sports 29" wheels and 120mm of travel up front paired with 105mm out back. It's certainly more capable in rough terrain than those figures suggest, thanks to aggressive geometry, but it's a bit hefty for distance work and there's no getting around the lack of travel when the trail gets really wild.
