Going back to a hardtail – even one with progressive geometry like the Primer – required patience. The payoff was well worth it.
Progressive geometry (65° head angle, long reach, short chainstays)
Excellent climbing efficiency despite weight and fat tires
Steel frame provides subtle flex and smooth pedal feel
Good traction and predictability in snow and loose conditions
High-quality component spec (Fox 36, XTR, DT Swiss wheels)
Snappy corner exit and pop out of corners
Confidence-inspiring on steep terrain
Simplicity and learning to be a better rider
Takes time to adapt from full suspension
Not nimble in quick side-to-side transitions
Technical climbs require precise line choice and gear selection
Hands and ankles feel more impact on rough trails
Front end requires aggressive inputs to corner well
Wheels/tires are heavy, acceleration not violent
