The frame is mid weight with flexibility to control through jumps, landing and control. The "package" that Trek puts out really is nice and sleek. I look at many other frames, some still boxy and dated. The Trek series pairs size, components and aesthetics well. The color choices look engaging.
If you are looking at this Mountain Bike as truly, "entry," I'd leave it alone. To look at your future with the Trek Marlin 7, you will need to account for future upgrades. Even though the weight is satisfactory, more advanced riders may want to slim down.... I was able to improve by adding more nimble components, upgrading with carbon fiber were I could. I plan to keep this bike for a long time and will continue to change things to progress the ride.
