The Specialized Allez is celebrated as an affordable, versatile endurance road bike that excels in comfort and handling, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned riders. Its premium alloy frame, wider tire clearance, and Roubaix-inspired geometry contribute to a stable and comfortable ride. While the base model's components like wheels and tyres are often cited as areas for improvement, the bike's upgradability and solid performance make it a standout in its category.
Affordable entry-level bike with high performance
Premium alloy frame with contemporary design features
Wider tire clearance and rack capabilities
Roubaix-inspired geometry for comfort and stable handling
Versatile and upgradable
Heavy wheels on the base model
Base build weight is more than expected with the light frameset
Brake performance was disappointing
Upgrading to a full hydraulic brake system requires upgrading the drivetrain too
The performance, however, is beyond entry-level.
It's a versatile bike that can tackle the long weekend club ride with its comfortable geometry and the weekday commute with its mudguard mounts.
This is possibly the nicest riding entry-level road bike of the long list I’ve tried.

Entry-level done well, with a poised geometry, 35mm tyre clearance, full fender and rack mounts at a price that doesn't break the bank
Easy to maintain and cheap to service with externally routed cockpit and non-proprietary parts
Tubeless-ready wheels
Mudguard mounts
Good tyre clearance
Reasonable weight for pricepoint
Newly adjusted geometry will need considering
Aesthetically underwhelming

The 2023 Specialized Allez road bike has increased tyre clearance of 35mm and disc brakes. It’s competent for recreational riding
35mm tyre clearance
Comfortable ride
Easy handling
Still-affordable price
Lacklustre wheels and tyres
Significantly more expensive than its predecessor or the base model Allez

Specialized has overhauled its entry-level road bike offerings.
A zero-fuss aluminium frame that rides

And fits well. Room for 35 mm tyres. Can take fenders and a rack. Sensible component choices with no obvious flaws. Easy to service. A bike worthy of upgrading.
Disc brakes make entry-level road bikes heavy. Limited to low-level specifications. Like everything
Even entry-level bikes are more expensive than ever.

The venerable road model bids farewell to rim brakes, and proves there’s plenty of life and performance yet to be gleaned from alloy.
