The Specialized Diverge is a versatile gravel bike praised for its smooth ride quality and all-surface capability, blending road and off-road performance. Key features include the FutureShock suspension system for enhanced comfort and a geometry that promotes stability and handling. It offers practical elements like multiple mounting points and internal storage, though some reviews note compromises in weight or tire traction.
Versatile all-surface capability
FutureShock suspension system for smooth ride
Stable and confidence-inspiring handling
Multiple mounting points for accessories
Comfortable geometry and ride quality
Can be heavier than some competitors
Tire choice may limit off-road traction
FutureShock may cause bobbing when climbing
Higher price point for certain models

The flat bars are polarizing, but the dedicated geometry makes the most of it.
Incredibly fun, confidence-inspiring handling on a versatile flame platform.
Slower than most gravel bikes.

Riding ‘off road’ on a road bike is nothing new. I have seen lots of days-gone-by pics of Tour de France riders with a tubular slung around their shoulders riding dirt roads.
Future Shock 2.0 provides effective small bump absorption
SWAT box integrates storage into frame
Roval Terra carbon seatpost offers compliance
Stable geometry with low and slack headtube angle
Future Shock 2.0 adjustability is only on/off, middle clicks ineffective
Future Shock 2.0 started squeaking after 5 rides
SWAT box bag too small for Specialized Tube Spool and multi-tool
GRX 1x drivetrain gearing inadequate for steep climbs (1-to-1 ratio)
Spec'd with 38c tires, insufficient for rough terrain
No factory 650b option offered

Painted special for the day in a throwback to the 1989 RockCombo, two Specialized Diverge bikes came to the line together under former WorldTour racers at Unbound Gravel. Ian Boswell outsprinted Laurens ten Dam to take the win, and afterwards said he was “kinda surprised” to find himself atop the podium. Boswell and I stayed … Continued

The fit offered by the Diverge really was a highlight and I enjoyed every moment I spent riding it
Comfortable fit
Confident handling
Fun ride
Favourite saddle comes fitted
Shifting engagement not always precise
Stock tyres not suitable for muddy conditions

Fast and responsive over varying terrain, however Future Shock suspension makes a questionable contribution in the face of high-volume tyres
Versatility
Speed
Handling
Tyre clearance
Suspension and toolbox unnecessary for some

The Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon could be the perfect do-it-all bike for those seeking on road fun and off road thrills
Good carbon frame
Great handling
Perfect blend of on road performance and off road capability
Tyres comprise its off-road competency

Bike giant Specialized sent us the Diverge Expert for our bikepacking group test. Designed as a gravel bike, it's been a talking point among bikepacking greats like Lael Wilcox since its introduction. Does it have what it takes to win our group test?
High level of comfort
Very composed
Maximum efficiency at cruising speed
SWAT box in the down tube
Frameset not stiff enough for heavy luggage
Lack of precision in off-road corners on loose surfaces
