The Specialized Diverge is a versatile gravel bike praised for its smooth ride quality and all-surface capability, blending road and off-road performance. Key features include the FutureShock suspension system for enhanced comfort and a geometry that promotes stability and handling. It offers practical elements like multiple mounting points and internal storage, though some reviews note compromises in weight or tire traction.
Versatile all-surface capability
FutureShock suspension system for smooth ride
Stable and confidence-inspiring handling
Multiple mounting points for accessories
Comfortable geometry and ride quality
Can be heavier than some competitors
Tire choice may limit off-road traction
FutureShock may cause bobbing when climbing
Higher price point for certain models
Lacks stiffness for heavy luggage in some cases
It is a very versatile higher-performance drop-bike without a specific purpose from a company that tends to build focused-performance bikes.Bicycling

Riding ‘off road’ on a road bike is nothing new. I have seen lots of days-gone-by pics of Tour de France riders with a tubular slung around their shoulders riding dirt roads.
Future Shock 2.0 provides small bump absorption, reducing hand and body fatigue.
SWAT box integrates storage into frame, eliminating need for rear seat bag.
GRX Di2 1x drivetrain performs beautifully.
Frame and fork allow max 47c tires and 650b wheels for versatility.
Head tube angle is low and slack, giving confidence on rough terrain.
Roval Terra carbon seatpost offers up to 18mm compliance, providing rear suspension effectively.
Future Shock 2.0 adjustability is effectively on/off; middle clicks do nothing.
Future Shock 2.0 began squeaking after 5 rides.
SWAT box bag does not fit Specialized's own tube spool with gravel tube and CO2.
GRX drivetrain has 1:1 gearing ratio, inadequate for steep, loose terrain; needs 11-46t cassette (not officially supported).
Factory tires are 38c, too small for rough roads and MTB trails; better with 44c or larger.

Proper gravel racer that belies its weight, and a blast to ride – plus the SWAT storage is a touch of class
Excellent handling for tackling trails at speed
Future Shock 2.0 gives controllable damping
Large tyre clearance
Such a fun ride
Thin bar tape
Bit of a colour clash inside the fork legs
Tyres quite narrow and slick for typical UK conditions

The Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon is a hugely versatile carbon gravel bike that could be turned to almost any task
The Future Shock 2.0 is super-effective at smoothing big hits and rough roads
Modern geometry contributes to super-stable ride quality
Every bike should have a SWAT box
Oodles of mounts boost versatility
Lots of tyre clearance
Uncompetitive build for the price
Tyres suffer in all but the driest conditions
Handlebar design may limit accessory mounting options

Fast and responsive over varying terrain, however Future Shock suspension makes a questionable contribution in the face of high-volume tyres

Suspension and toolbox unnecessary for some

Bike giant Specialized sent us the Diverge Expert for our bikepacking group test. Designed as a gravel bike, it's been a talking point among bikepacking greats like Lael Wilcox since its introduction. Does it have what it takes to win our group test?
High level of comfort
Very composed
Maximum efficiency at cruising speed
SWAT box in the down tube
Frameset not stiff enough for heavy luggage
Lack of precision in off-road corners on loose surfaces
