Riassunto
The Rose Backroad is a versatile gravel bike that excels in speed and efficiency, making it a solid choice for riders who prioritize performance over comfort. Its lightweight carbon frame and excellent components, like the Shimano 105 groupset, offer great value, especially through Rose's direct-sales model. However, its firmer ride and high bottom bracket may not suit those seeking maximum comfort or stability on rough terrain.
Lightweight carbon frame
Excellent value for money
Versatile for commuting or touring
Surefooted on technical trails
Flawless shifting and powerful brakes
Firmer ride than most
High bottom bracket affects stability
Limited comfort on rough surfaces
Not the smoothest carbon gravel bike
Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres aren’t tubeless-ready
The ROSE BACKROAD has become a bit of a classic in the European gravel market.
The ride quality will appeal more to speed merchants than comfort seekers though.
It’s a surefooted bike on technical trails with plenty of ground clearance and fast steering responses helping to keep you on the right track.

German bike brand ROSE want to prove how versatile their gravel platform is, sending us the BACKROAD AXS MULLET BUILD for our big bikepacking group test. Can the BACKROAD come out on top with its high-end spec?

After updating their carbon gravel bike earlier in the year, Rose is back with a new Backroad – the Backroad AL. Naturally, the AL stands for aluminum as this bike relies on a new metal frame to help get prices even lower, though the AL is still packed with premium features. Starting with an aluminum […]

Stiff, responsive gravel machine that works well on the road too
Fun and fast ride
New internal routing gives a very clean look
Reasonable weight
Some lights won't fit the D-shaped seatpost

Rose has entered the growing allroad/gravel/adventure bike market with the Backroad, and this Shimano 105-equipped model offers good performance with enough versatility to chuck it into service as a commuter or touring bike when you’re not micro adventuring. The ride quality will appeal more to speed merchants than comfort seekers though. The Backroad is light, well-detailed, great value and covers ground fast, but is a firmer ride than most
Spec your own, great looks, value and speed
Overly firm ride on rough surfaces, high bottom bracket
