Riassunto
The Merida Silex is a versatile gravel bike that offers a comfortable, upright riding position, making it suitable for long distances and bikepacking. It features a clever chassis design with multiple mounts for added versatility, though its relaxed geometry may not appeal to those seeking high performance. The bike is available in both carbon and alloy variants, providing options for different budgets and preferences.
Comfortable upright riding position
Multiple mounts for versatility
Available in carbon and alloy variants
Good-value mix of equipment levels
Excellent spread of gearing for off-road and on
Relaxed geometry prioritizes comfort over performance
Alloy frame transmits more vibrations
High front can lead to wandering steering
Narrow-ish wheels and tyres undercut rough-trail potential
Not well-suited to riders who like to charge downhill
The Silex is one of those gravel bikes that’s somewhat open to interpretation.
It blends superb ride position and brilliant off-road handling with fantastic ride quality making it a bike that combines value with performance.
The slightly narrow wheels and tyres hold it back in the rough stuff, and if you like a silent bike the cheap-feeling internal routing will grate, but for all-round ability and usability – this thing has mounts for everything – the Merida Silex 600 impresses.

First announced for the 2018 season, the Merida Silex is the Taiwanese mega-manufacturer’s take on the do-it-all gravel segment. It’s a bike that’s available in both alloy and carbon variants, and new for 2020, a 650B-wheeled version of the latter. While it’s not a new bike, we hadn’t ridden one, until now. While attending the […]

The Silex forges a bold path with its looks and position, but is great value and rides well. Buy if you prioritise a slightly higher position to better enjoy your adventures
All-Ultegra groupset, Fulcrum wheels, frame quality
Higher riding position than usual for its size

Sitting in the upper end of the gravel range from Merida, the Silex 700 delivers a no-nonsense package of reliable components, parts and a geometry that brings a stable ride feel. Its geometry vaguely references mountain bikes, which makes for a really excellent ride feel, on road or off, blurring the line between road and mountain in a fast, fun bike.
