Sure, it's got a battery, but the AlpenChallenge Amp also borrows plenty of features from non-motorized road bikes to make it fun and comfortable.

E-bike climbing is definitely smoother when seated, as sudden out of the saddle bursts of pedalling can confuse the motor during each transition between seated and standing, making things a little jerky.
