Résumé
The Vitus Escarpe is a trail bike that excels in descents, offering controlled and confident suspension performance, especially when the terrain gets steep and rough. It's praised for its killer specification, including high-quality dampers and SRAM components, making it a great value for its price. However, it's noted for being a bit wallowy on flat trails and not the best climber, with some models experiencing downgraded components.
Controlled and confident descent-focused rear suspension
Killer specification with high-quality components
Great value for the price
Smooth and responsive suspension stroke
Excellent grip and cornering potential
A bit wallowy on flat trails
Not the best climber
Downgraded components in some models
Extra weight compared to competitors
Despite 140mm of rear-wheel travel, the Escarpe was one of the best all-out descenders on test
‘Cheapest bike here, bang on specification and silent as it gets’
If Vitus really wants to reverse its current ratings trend, it’s going to have to update the geometry on the Escarpe 29
The bikes were both designed at the same time, and there's a good reason they bear more than a passing resemblance to each other – they share the same carbon front triangle.Pinkbike

A carbon fibre beauty with no-compromises on kit
Great, neutral geometry gives plenty of control on both climbs and descents
Astonishing spec considering you also get a carbon fibre mainframe
Good looks and refined construction
I’d prefer an even longer-travel seatpost
The newest Pike fork isn’t as good as the old one

The 2021 Vitus Escarpe is a ripper of a 29er trail bike. It pedals very well and descends like a sprightly enduro bike, plus all versions have a carbon front triangles matched with cool colours for sleek looks. This base model doesn’t have the parts longevity we’d like to see, but it’s a great starting place for a bike upgrade journey.

Vitus' 140mm Escarpe gets completely redesigned for 2021 to provide even more bike for your buck, and we find out what that means on the trail.
Ideal all-rounder, doesn't need crazy trails to deliver a good time
Great price considering the components and performance
Carbon fiber doesn't automatically mean lightweight.
Under the bottom bracket cable routing

Chain Reaction Cycle's Vitus ESCARPE 29 VRX is well regarded in the UK, but how can it hold up in an international group test?

The Vitus Escarpe 29 VRX is one helluva package for the monies. Tom reviews the 29er trail bike to see just how good it is

Having endured all four of the UK’s seasons as one our fleet of long termer test bikes, how has the keenly priced Vitus Escarpe 29 VR held up?
Enjoys technical terrain, up or down.
Excellent geometry and decent sizing.
Simply a bargain.
Wheels needed frequent truing.
Underpowered Shimano brakes.
Mismatched response from the Manitou fork and RockShox shock.
