TESTED: Trek Supercaliber 9.8

janv. 2021

Looking for an end-of-summer riding goal in a season void of events and races due to COVID-19, my wife and I landed on an ambitious project. Colorado’s Leadville 100 MTB and the 144-mile SBT GRVL (Steamboat Gravel) had originally been scheduled for the same weekend in August, and inspired by various “virtual” alternatives to in-person events, we made plans for a Vermont-based LeadBoat. The mountain bike day, a 105-mile loop we plotted around Mt. Mansfield, Vermont’s tallest summit and the view from our doorstep, would link together long stretches of dirt road with as much singletrack as possible. It also would be the longest mountain bike ride I’d ever done and require a lightweight bike that could readily tackle 100 miles and more than 10,000 feet of elevation gain.
