Résumé
The Specialized Camber is a versatile trail bike praised for its maneuverability, efficient suspension, and value. It excels in technical sections with its slackened head angle and shorter chainstays, though some riders desire a beefier fork. The bike's FSR suspension and SWAT door storage are frequently highlighted, but opinions vary on its climbing efficiency and component spec.
Maneuverable with slackened head angle and shorter chainstays
Efficient FSR suspension system
SWAT door storage compartment
Good value for carbon front triangle and components
Versatile for both XC and trail riding
Some riders prefer a beefier fork
Mixed reviews on climbing efficiency
Component spec varies across models
Can feel sluggish on steep climbs
Lacks a dropper post in some builds
I picked the Camber Expert Carbon EVO 29 as my favorite of all 34 bikes in that year’s test issue.
The Camber is less prone to wallow than rival machines.
The Specialized Camber is a tolerant trail bike, happily tearing up the trails without much effort and handing out shedloads of confidence to less experienced riders.
The Camber is a svelte XC and Trail machine
130 millimeters of travel seems to hit the sweet spot for a nimble trail bike too.

The 2017 Specialized Camber Comp 29 is still a rapid, fun bike though, and with tweaks to the specification it could bump it’s rating up a notch.
Fast, fun ride.
Rear suspension lack support.

A comfy climber and singletrack slayer (after a stem swap), but limited on really rough terrain. Buy if you want an eager and agile, fast-climbing trail bike, but aren't too bothered about technical descending and don't mind swapping that stem
Great climber despite relatively high weight
Snappy handling once fitted with a sensible stem
Long stem ruins the stock ride
Flexy fork and wheels plus steep head angle limit aggro potential

We love these type of reviews, where we carefully set both bikes up and jump between them multiple times over a few solid rides to feel the differences, then we sit back and pick the finer details apart taking into consideration everything that would concern a potential buyer. The Camber’s 27.5-inch wheel platform accommodates a wide range of rider sizes, and it steamrolls over just about everything. 130 millimeters of travel

Slotting in between the Epic XC race bike and the long-travel Stumpjumper, the Camber aims to be the trail bike for all.

There’s something to be said for getting a kid started on a fully rigid hardtail. But if your local trails are super gnarly, there’s also a pretty darn good argument for getting them suspended as quickly as possible. Traction aside, it’s more about comfort and safety, assuming the weight penalty isn’t too grand. If you …
