Résumé
The Salsa Cutthroat is celebrated as a versatile and high-performance gravel bike, excelling in comfort, stability, and cargo capacity. Its carbon frame and fork offer a smooth ride, while the geometry and handling inspire confidence across varied terrains. Despite minor critiques on component choices and frame updates, it stands out as a top choice for gravel and bikepacking adventures.
Carbon frame and fork provide exceptional comfort and compliance
Outstanding cargo carrying capability with numerous frame mounts
Confident and stable handling across all terrains
Lightweight and efficient for long-distance rides
Innovative features like the Vibration Reduction System enhance ride quality
Press fit bottom bracket may develop creaks
Lack of dropper post and fender mounts for larger tires
Some desire for adjustable chainstay length for versatility
It’s truly the most comfortable and stable drop-bar bike I’ve ridden to date, and it still feels fast.BIKEPACKING.com
The Cutthroat handles gravel, dirt roads, pavement, and smooth trails as well or better than others in its class (and a few other classes), and it has the feel of a mountain bike, which is comforting to me.BIKEPACKING.com
The Salsa Cutthroat is a loyal companion – a light-footed racing tractor with plenty of storage capacity, heaps of clever details, and superb handling – even for crossing the Rocky Mountains!

Salsa Cycles just announced the fully redesigned, next-level Cutthroat V2. We had a chance to put well over 1,000 miles on one prior to today’s launch for this full review. Find all the details, our ride impressions, and loads of photos here...
Carbon frame and fork continue to be incredibly comfortable, compliant, lightweight, and fast
The lines and aesthetics of the Cutthroat v2 are much more appealing than v1
Continues to be one of the most confident and stable drop-bar 29ers on the market
Nearly unmatched cargo carrying capability
New bolt-on frame pack is very well done
If I had one frame update wish, it’s that the Cutthroat would have a flip chip in the rear dropout, allowing for a shorter or longer chainstay depending on ride and tire choice
For this build, I’d like to see wider rims; for some reason Salsa specced the 22.5mm inner width Spline rims instead of the 25mm. A 27mm IW would be ideal.
