Résumé

The Ritchey Ultra is a versatile and fun steel hardtail that excels in cross-country and trail riding, offering a smooth, efficient ride with a classic aesthetic. Its steel frame provides comfort on rough terrain, and it accommodates a range of wheel sizes for versatility. While it shines in climbing and handling, some reviews note it's more XC-oriented and may not be the best for aggressive downhill rides.

Pros
  • Smooth, enjoyable ride with bump-numbing qualities

  • Versatile wheel size options (27.5 up to 3 inches wide or 29 up to 2.4 inches)

  • Climber’s dream with aggressive position and efficient pedaling

  • Modern geometry and features with classic aesthetics

  • Steel frame provides comfort on rough terrain without excessive flex

Cons
  • More XC than some newer trail hardtails due to shorter reach and 68.5-degree head angle

  • Limited dropper post travel with only three positions

  • Not the best option for fast downhill rides

  • Rather heavy compared to premium steel bikes

  • Back end can buck hard on substantial hits

Ritchey Ultra review: Traditional steel meets modern rubber - CyclingTips

mai 2019 · James Huang

I spent my formative years of mountain biking riding hardtails. Although my very first one was made of carbon fiber (?!), it wasn’t long at all before I found myself firmly enamored with metal. There was a titanium Litespeed Obed, three DeKerfs (a steel Team SL, a steel-and-titanium Team ST, and then a titanium Elysium), […]

Ritchey Ultra hardtail frameset review

févr. 2019

The Ritchey Ultra is a gorgeous steel hardtail that operates as a lithe and engaging cross-country and trail bike. It’s fast and fun on all sorts of trails from fast and flowing to tight and technical, the steel frame looks after you on rough terrain but isn’t negatively flexy, and the big tyres provide stacks of traction and bump absorption. It’s just a huge amount of fun. The best mountain bikes you can buy for under £1,500 - full sus and hardtails When should you replace your bicycle helmet?
