Résumé
The Propain Hugene is a versatile trail bike that excels in agility and climbing efficiency, with a lightweight design and efficient suspension. It's praised for its playful handling and customization options, though some reviews note limitations in downhill performance and component noise. The bike's value is highlighted, especially outside the UK where import duties add cost.
Lightweight and efficient suspension design
Playful and agile handling
Extensive customization options
Good value outside the UK
High-quality carbon frame
Limited downhill capability
Component noise issues
Higher cost for UK buyers due to import duties
Some stiffness in the front end

Propain has succeeded in making a great bike even better.
The Hugene is one of the loudest bikes we’ve tested in a long time.
The light weight, relatively stiff chassis and supportive suspension makes it difficult to ride without a smile on your face.
The bike ticks more boxes than most of the other trail bikes we tested.Pinkbike

On its website, Propain boldly calls the Hugene the "one bike to rule them all." Has the German direct-to-consumer brand finally cracked the code?
Neutral, intuitive handling
Efficient climber
Lightweight
Lots of customization options in Europe
Sealed bearing covers
Less small-bump sensitivity than some bikes we tested
Ineffective frame port protection
Few customization options in the US

Custom bikes are awesome! The guys at Propain know this well and let you build your very own dream bike using their extensive configurator. This is also possible with their smallest family member, the Hugene, which offers 140 mm rear travel. For our test bike, we picked the burliest fork available in the configurator, a 150 mm FOX 36. Nevertheless, the bike still climbs like a rocket! But how does it fare against the competition of our big group test?
Very extensive configurator
A real rocket uphill
Demanding downhill
Very loud downhill
Poor paint quality

A true all-rounder, with performance that impressed on every trail we tested it
Incredibly composed rear suspension that doles out traction with generosity
Beautifully built, sleek carbon frameset that’s got a great shape
You can pick and choose parts
A little pedal bob when mashing the pedals
