Résumé

The Nukeproof Scout is a trail-ready hardtail that excels in descents with its stable and grippy performance, thanks to its well-thought-out geometry and quality components. It offers a smooth, controlled ride, particularly noted for its Marzocchi Z2 fork and efficient Shimano Deore 12-speed transmission. However, some reviews point out sizing issues and a slightly dated frame design.

Pros

  • Smooth, controlled ride quality

  • Quality components and build

  • Marzocchi Z2 fork performance

Cons

Nukeproof Scout Comp Hardtail

oct. 2023

A first look at the Scout Comp hardtail, the most interesting build and potentially the best value in Nukeproof's mountain bicycle lineup.

Points forts
  • Excellent packaging with reusable straps and minimal plastic

  • High-value build with min-maxed components at Comp level

  • SRAM DB8 mineral oil brakes offer better feel than Code R for less money

  • Frame designed for 140-150mm fork with detailed geometry chart including sagged numbers

  • Generous tire clearance for 2.4" tires on 29" version

  • Mix-and-match tire setup: softer front, harder rear with different casings

  • House brand headset and bottom bracket are quality parts

  • Easy assembly and good out-of-box tuning

Points faibles
  • Z2 fork is only 130mm travel and needs basic service out of box

  • Not available for direct purchase in Canada

  • 29" version limited to 2.35" tires (no 2.6" option like 275)

  • Untrimmed zip ties with sharp edges on build

  • Confusing cable routing for rear derailleur (rerouted by tester)

  • SunRace cassette shifts poorer than Shimano under load

  • Would prefer 2.6" tires on 290 model

  • No flush-cut zip ties

We’ve seen a number of XC hardtails drop lately. Canyon, Orbea, Trek and BMC to name a few. We also saw the other end of the spectrum in the Kona Honzo ESD. None of these are “normal bikes.” In fact, the most high-profile normal hardtail we saw was the Yeti ARC, and it may just…
