Résumé

The Merida Silex is a versatile gravel bike that offers a comfortable, upright riding position, making it suitable for long distances and bikepacking. It features a clever chassis design with multiple mounts for added versatility, though its relaxed geometry may not appeal to those seeking high performance. The bike is available in both carbon and alloy variants, providing options for different budgets and preferences.

Pros
  • Comfortable upright riding position

  • Multiple mounts for versatility

  • Available in carbon and alloy variants

  • Good-value mix of equipment levels

  • Excellent spread of gearing for off-road and on

Cons
  • Relaxed geometry prioritizes comfort over performance

  • Alloy frame transmits more vibrations

  • High front can lead to wandering steering

  • Narrow-ish wheels and tyres undercut rough-trail potential

  • Not well-suited to riders who like to charge downhill

Key Quotes
The Silex is one of those gravel bikes that’s somewhat open to interpretation.
Cycling Tips logoCycling Tips
It blends superb ride position and brilliant off-road handling with fantastic ride quality making it a bike that combines value with performance.
BikeRadar logoBikeRadar
The slightly narrow wheels and tyres hold it back in the rough stuff, and if you like a silent bike the cheap-feeling internal routing will grate, but for all-round ability and usability – this thing has mounts for everything – the Merida Silex 600 impresses.

Merida Silex 600 2020 review

août 2020

The Silex is Merida's main gravel bike, with the 600 sitting near the top of the aluminium range with a single-ring SRAM Apex drivetrain and mixed SRAM/Shimano brakes. It’s studded with mudguard, rack and accessory mounts, boasts an impressively smooth carbon fork and sits riders up tall for a comfy ride, but the narrow-ish wheels and tyres undercuts its rough-trail potential.

août 2019 · Dave Rome

First announced for the 2018 season, the Merida Silex is the Taiwanese mega-manufacturer’s take on the do-it-all gravel segment. It’s a bike that’s available in both alloy and carbon variants, and new for 2020, a 650B-wheeled version of the latter. While it’s not a new bike, we hadn’t ridden one, until now. While attending the […]
