Résumé

The Merida Silex is praised for its versatile performance, offering a comfortable and stable ride both on and off-road. Its mountain bike-inspired geometry and wide gear range make it a standout in the gravel category, though some reviews note limitations in tire performance and component specs for the price.

Pros
  • Competent off-road performance with comfortable ride

  • Good gear range for varied terrain

  • Comfortable, neutral ride position

  • Lots of tyre clearance

  • Load-lugging potential

Cons
  • Semi-slick Maxxis tyres limit off-road capability

  • Absence of frames for shorter riders

  • Component spec may not justify the price for some

Key Quotes

The Silex forges a bold path with its looks and position, but is great value and rides well. Buy if you prioritise a slightly higher position to better enjoy your adventures

Points forts
  • All-Ultegra groupset, Fulcrum wheels, frame quality

Points faibles
  • Higher riding position than usual for its size

Merida Silex 700 review

juin 2018

Sitting in the upper end of the gravel range from Merida, the Silex 700 delivers a no-nonsense package of reliable components, parts and a geometry that brings a stable ride feel. Its geometry vaguely references mountain bikes, which makes for a really excellent ride feel, on road or off, blurring the line between road and mountain in a fast, fun bike.
