Tested: Kona Honzo ST

juin 2020

Whether your first choice is an ultra-light carbon XC race bike or a super-plush enduro ripper, there’s something about a steel hardtail—and the person pedaling it—that commands respect. My first mountain bike was a steel hardtail, a 1996 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo I bought from a bike courier in Washington, D.C. The courier had hacked off the rear dropouts and welded on horizontal dropouts to run it as a singlespeed.

Kona Big Honzo DL review (2019)

juil. 2019

Kona's Big Honzo is a fun, Plus tyred hardtail that packs in well-balanced geometry, an engaging ride and a spec that's generally functional, if low-rent. This 2019 bike lets the side down with sketchy tyres and budget brakes amongst other gripes which make it hard to recommend, but the 2020 update looks much more promising. Kona Big Honzo DL, Long-term Review

déc. 2016 · Skyler Des Roches

In our latest long-term bike test, Skyler reviews the Kona Big Honzo DL and takes us deep into the realm of sacred trail and bikepacking geometry...

Points forts
  • Nearly everything related to its geometry makes the Big Honzo just a really good bike: It’s comfortable; Efficient riding position; Climbs really well; Confidence-inspiring descender (for a hard tail); Also does flat well; Fun, playful, nimble

  • Rock Shox Yari fork and Schwalbe Nobby Nic tires stand out as great components

  • Light overall weight thanks to hydroformed aluminum frame

  • Internal routing for cables but external for hoses, which is clean but low-faff

Points faibles
  • Relatively low bottom bracket height conspires with long crank arms and low-engagement hub for annoying pedal strikes

  • NX shifting could be snappier

  • Center-lock rotors are an annoyance to remove for travel

  • Press-fit bottom bracket

  • Small front triangle means limited frame bag space

  • Limited braze-ons for one bottle cage only
