It excels on steep descents and rough trails, offering stability and control, though it may require effort on climbs and technical trails. The bike's Canadian-made frame and lifetime warranty add to its appeal, despite some inconsistencies in spec and performance.

Made in Canada frameset with a lifetime warranty
Versatile geometry suitable for aggressive riding
Stable and confident on steep descents
Good value for a Canadian-made frame
Lacklustre climbing performance
Inconsistent spec across builds
Requires physical effort on technical trails
Front wheel traction can be inconsistent
Some components like brakes and dropper post may need upgrading
The Chainsaw GX 12S is a brilliant bike at what it’s designed for – to suit aggressive riders smashing out park laps and heading off to the occasional backcountry enduro trail.
On steep descents, the Chainsaw lives up to its name and inspires tons of confidence.

Checking in on the (now-mulleted) High Pivot + Idler (HP+I) Devinci Chainsaw

The Chainsaw is Devinci’s new high-pivot enduro bike. How did Steve Smith’s tribute bike fare against North America’s finest enduro rippers?
Confidence inspiring
Quiet on descents
Inconsistent spec
Undefined fork struggles to generate traction at the front
Requires great physical effort on narrow, technical trails

août 2023 · Luke Marshall
Ferociously fast on steep trails, but that's a trade-off for all-round ability
Few trails are outside the Chainsaw’s comfort zone
Downhill performance
Robust design
Lower chain guide adds significant drag
Shock with a climb switch would be welcome
Odd tyre compound choices

The gravity-oriented Chainsaw can be build up in a variety of configurations.
Eats bumps without feeling glued to the ground at all times.
Excellent value, Canadian-made frame.
Versatile configurations for gravity focused riders.
Climbing is a chore; no lockout on shock, short dropper, cramped seat position, pulley friction.
The G2 RE brakes hold back the Chainsaw’s descending capabilities.
Rocker link pivots loosened on occasion.

The all-new Devinci Chainsaw GX 12S bears the name of Canadian mountain biking legend, the late Stevie “Chainsaw” Smith. Carrying his legacy—Smith remains the only Canadian to ever land on the podium at a UCI Mountain Bike World Downhill Championship event—and embracing his riding spirit is a bold undertaking. We chatted with Sports and Product Marketing Manager, Bastien Major, who spoke to the importance of the Chainsaw namesake, "Stevie had such a big impact on the Canadian cycling scene and on all of us here at Devinci. Naming the Chainsaw after himself was to keep his spirit alive, carry his legacy, and make sure he would always be remembered as one of the greatest.", Devinci partnered with the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation to create this aluminum alloy frame welded in Canada which, they say, aims to inspire shredders of all levels to find their joy in riding.
