Commencal went ultra-long and slack for the newest Meta AM 29, so does that make it to enduro for everyday riding?

Let's go ahead and call it a well-rounded bruiser
Simple, clean design
Efficient climber
Exceptionally confident descender
Good value
Not as hovery through high-speed chunk as a modern high-pivot
No carbon option
Rear brake line exits chainstay close to rear rotor, increasing chance of melting the hose on the rotor (which happened on this bike)

It’s amazing what difference a frame size can make! In our race bike group test, the size large COMMENCAL META AM 29 was unbalanced, slow and took a lot of effort to ride. The size medium tested here feels like a completely different bike.
Direct and fun handling
Provides a lot of feedback from the ground
Relaxed climbing position
The handling of the large frame sizes is unbalanced
Downsizing comes at the cost of composure
Heavy

After all these years of throwing our legs over countless trail slaying machines we are consistently amazed at how good bikes are today in comparison to how good they were 10 years ago, even 5 years ago! And just when you think things can’t get any better think again people. [R]evolution HQ was lucky enough to get our hands on the all-new 2021 Commencal Meta AM 29er and to be quite honest the crew at Revolution were to say the […]

We analyse the big geometry changes for Commencal's 2021 META AM 29; it retains the 160 mm single-pivot platform but gets long, steep and slack for MY21.

The Meta AM is like a cult classic—narrow in appeal, but with a dedicated following.

When I first hopped on the Meta so often would my thoughts drift back to my first legit mountain bike, a Giant AC1. It was silver, coil-sprung and opened my youthful eyes to nastier terrain. The Meta AM reminds me of this with its raw silver splendor and readiness to chew up the chunky stuff. Sure, most of my reminiscing is simply aesthetic with the Meta’s silver aluminum image and beefy stature. Plowing through questionable rock piles on the Meta would conjure fond memories and assert the bewilderment of hanging onto a pile of metal through such twisted sections of trail. Present components and geometry are a far cry from that decade-old steed. Rather than stopping trailside and removing a linkage bolt to change the suspension and drop the seat, the Meta offers on-the-fly rear suspension lockout and seat dropping among other modern standards. Its aluminum skeleton is molded and formed in unique ways that offers much intrigue, possibly more so than freshly molded carbon creations. Later as I sought to compile the riding characteristics of this bike I discovered that the word ‘meta’ means after or beyond in Greek. There’s no doubt that this bike and build can push one to their limit and possibly beyond and I truly felt that aboard on descents. It’s been on a podium tear piloted by Commencal’s Cecile Ravenal, too, who’s been nearly unbeatable in the Enduro Wordl Series these past couple seasons. While there’s a 29-inch version of the Meta AM on the horizon this is the tried and true original and shows no signs of fading away.
