SL vs Full Powered Kenevo

may 2021 · Ian Collins
A few weeks ago I was invited to an incredible riding riding location to test a very interesting new bike. The new-to-me place was Port Angeles, home of the legendary “Underworld Cup” – a U.S. National race that happened each year around Sea Otter time and, due to its timing, attracted top World Cup talent. The bike is the all new Specialized Turbo Kenevo Super Light. Upon a quick glance it could almost pass for an Enduro – for good reason, as you can see. Want more laps? The Kenevo SL may just be your ticket.
Exceptionally balanced, descent orientated geometry.
Updated firmware smoothes out pedal assist / cut out.
Efficient transfer of power/efficency.
Agile and maneuverable descending
Active suspension platform keeps bike tracking straight.
Over-the-air firmware updates
Regardless of geometry adjustment, low bottom bracket/low hung weight increases pedal strikes.
200mm rear rotor poorly regulate heat / brake fade on long, demanding descents.
Specialized Roval Traverse wheels not keen on heavy use.

Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert isn't just slapping on a 180mm-travel RockShox Boxxer fork and calling it a day though. It's a completely redesigned frame.
Progressive sizing and geometry
Needs a lighter shock tune

Specialized’s latest ebike could be its best yet

ene 2020 · Christoph Bayer
A bottle cage and a dual crown fork – thanks to the motor, these aren't contradictory features on the Specialized Turbo Kenevo. We were very excited to see if it could beat the competition.
Unlimited downhill capabilities
Confidence-inspiring on the descents
Powerful motor
Shuttle mode
Brakes are too weak for the intended use
Boring on easier trails

The Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert is the only bike on test with a dual crown fork. Can it still climb?
No limits on the descents
Confidence inspiring on steep terrain
Great motor integration
Useful app to tune the support levels
Large selection of frame sizes
11-speed drivetrain
Brakes not powerful enough for the bike’s hard-riding purpose
Boring on easy trails
