Resumen

The Pivot Phoenix downhill bike is praised for its innovative DW6 linkage design and high-pivot setup, which significantly reduces pedal kickback and improves square-edge bump performance. Its carbon/aluminum construction and rapid prototyping process highlight Pivot's commitment to performance and efficiency, though some prototypes showed areas needing refinement. The bike's geometry and suspension adjustability, along with a nearly frictionless drivetrain, contribute to its competitive edge in downhill racing.

Pros
  • DW6 linkage design reduces pedal kickback

  • Carbon/aluminum construction for stiffness and performance

  • Adjustable geometry and suspension progressivity

  • Nearly frictionless drivetrain parts

  • High-pivot design for faster times

Cons
  • Earlier prototypes had less refined idler chainguides

  • Testing phase for leverage rates may lead to changes

  • No dropper post routing, requires wireless dropper

Key Quotes
Bernard Kerr was 3 seconds faster on the new bike on his very first run

The engineering team designed simpler carbon tubes that are bonded into CNC'd aluminum lugs. This cut down the project time to just two and half weeks.

Pivot has given the Phoenix a Suspension Progressivity Flip Chip that changes nothing but the progressivity rate of the suspension

Drew’s Pivot Phoenix Custom Build

oct 2024 · Drew Rohde

I’ve been fortunate enough to work full time testing and reviewing bikes for roughly 15 years now. I spent the first 5 years like most bike industry nerds, buying a new bike every season as I always wanted to have the latest and greatest as my “personal test mule.” It took me about that long to realize, I was so busy testing and riding other people’s bikes, that I never got the chance to ride my own. Because of that, I stopped buying bikes around 2015 as I just never got to ride them and it hurt my feelings to have such beautiful, customized bikes sitting around collecting dust. I am thrilled to say, I’ve broken the streak, and I will be making time to ride my recently purchased, Pivot Phoenix DH bike.
