Resumen
The Merida Silex is praised for its versatile performance, offering a comfortable and stable ride both on and off-road. Its mountain bike-inspired geometry and wide gear range make it a standout in the gravel category, though some reviews note limitations in tire performance and component specs for the price.
Competent off-road performance with comfortable ride
Good gear range for varied terrain
Comfortable, neutral ride position
Lots of tyre clearance
Load-lugging potential
Semi-slick Maxxis tyres limit off-road capability
Absence of frames for shorter riders
Component spec may not justify the price for some
The Merida Silex is a competent off-road performer with good manners, a comfortable ride and an mtb-like geometry that sets it apart from most gravel bikes.
The Silex 700 is very capable on- and off-road and is well-specced for the money
Brave steps from Merida, that work perfectly well in real life.

The Silex is Merida's main gravel bike, with the 600 sitting near the top of the aluminium range with a single-ring SRAM Apex drivetrain and mixed SRAM/Shimano brakes. It’s studded with mudguard, rack and accessory mounts, boasts an impressively smooth carbon fork and sits riders up tall for a comfy ride, but the narrow-ish wheels and tyres undercuts its rough-trail potential.

First announced for the 2018 season, the Merida Silex is the Taiwanese mega-manufacturer’s take on the do-it-all gravel segment. It’s a bike that’s available in both alloy and carbon variants, and new for 2020, a 650B-wheeled version of the latter. While it’s not a new bike, we hadn’t ridden one, until now. While attending the […]

Is the € 3,600 Merida Silex 9000 carbon-rig the new star in the gravel firmament? And what can the many attractively priced options for bikepackers offer?
