In part 2 of his gravel series, Deniz digs into the Specialized Diverge 4 Sport Carbon and Terra CLX III Wheels.
Carbon frame
Mechanical GRX drivetrain
10-51t wide-range cassette
Battery-free (mechanical groupset)
Good fit (size 54 recommended by Specialized calculator)
Future Shock 3.1 works as advertised
Comfortable ride
Excellent tire clearance for wide tires
172.5mm cranks (too long, pedal strike risk)
No dropper post (carbon seatpost static)
Heavy cassette (SLX 7100 series)
Future Shock 3.1 lacks lockout for climbing out of saddle
Future Shock adds complexity, potential maintenance concerns
High price of Roval Terra CLX III wheels (optional)
May 2026 · Jeff Barber
The Specialized Diverge 4 Comp Alloy gravel bike features front suspension, wide tire clearance, and versatile storage options.
Plenty of room for on-bike (and in-bike) storage
Future Shock works surprisingly well for such a simple design. It will be hard to go back to riding gravel without some form of front suspension after riding the Diverge 4.
Unnecessary in-fork brake hose routing
The colors offered on the Diverge 4 alloy frames are blah compared to the colors on the carbon frames

Jan 2026
Massive clearance, massive storage, and great fun too, if a little languid on the road
Can handle all but the most extreme tyre setups
Future Shock actually works and isn't a gimmick
Barrels over rough ground with ease
Frame storage is actually useful
Climbs technical terrain extremely well
Dropper post compatible
A little sluggish feeling on the road
Not the best value
Future Shock replacements are really quite expensive

Sept 2025 · Jordan Villella
Specialized says the Diverge 4 is the “ultimate getaway vehicle,” and the Expert AXS build might be the lineup’s sweet spot.

Sept 2025 · Ollie Smith
The latest Diverge update from Specialized is a case of evolution rather than revolution, but it’s better than ever off-road
Confidence inspiring geometry
Up to date tyre clearance
Neat frame storage
Cheaper than the previous expert model
Tyre spec doesn t line up with updated geometry
Headset top cap below the future shock rattles a little
Power saddle feels a bit too racey
Lack of future shock adjustment

Sept 2025 · Ewan Wilson
Four years since the release of the previous generation Diverge, Specialized has built upon that Unbound-winning formula to deliver a lighter and more versatile

Sept 2025 · Calvin Zajac
With increased comfort, more generous tire clearance and a revamped Future Shock, the 2026 Specialized Diverge promises to impress – but does this make it the ultimate all-round gravel bike?
High adventure potential
Future Shock works well
Spacious frame storage
No electronic drivetrain options on the aluminium model
