Rad Power Bikes RadMini 4 Review: Summary For current pricing on the Rad Power Bikes RadMini 4 click here. When I heard that we were reviewing the RadMini 4 I wondered if I was going to be able to tell the difference between its performance versus other foldable fat tire e-bikes. I asked myself, “How […]

Highs
  • The smooth tires roll quicker and quieter than any other fat-tire folding bike we’ve tested so far.

  • The RadMini 4 feels very stable and connected to the pavement.

  • We all agreed that the battery placement is better than lots of competitors for convenience of folding the bike up.

  • We noticed that the RadMini 4 feels like one piece more than the other foldable ebikes.

  • Rad Power Bikes have created a very quiet, comfortable, and efficient ride.

  • The RadMini 4 surprised us with its hill climbing ability. There may be something to those smaller wheels!

Lows
  • We all agreed that the saddle isn’t the most comfortable, it kind of feels like you’re sitting on two tennis balls.

  • Our taller riders noted that It’s a pretty cramped reach for taller/lankier people.

  • Seatpost clamp is too close to the battery for convenience, they get in the way of each other.

Rad Power Bikes RadMini 4 (EU Version) Review

Sept 2020

Price: $1699.00 | Model Year: 2020 | The first folding fat tire model from Rad Power Bikes to become available in Europe! Custom 3.3

Observations
  • The first folding fat tire model from Rad Power Bikes to become available in Europe! Custom 3.3" wide tires have reflective sidewalls, puncture resistant lining, and all-terrain checkerboard tread making them off-road capable. Fourth generation RadMini hardware has all of the kinks worked out, and it comes standard with wide plastic fenders, integrated lights, and an adjustable spring suspension fork with preload and lockout clickers

  • Only available in one frame size and one color, but the handlebar and seat height are adjustable, so it can accommodate a wide range of body types. The folding joint is fairly narrow, so you won't bump your knees, but there are no bottle cage bosses and the wires are external vs. internally routed. The frame feels very solid and doesn't suffer from frame flex, but it's fairly heavy at ~31kg

  • Large 180mm disc brake rotors provide excellent stopping power and control, both brake levers activate the rear light for safety and cut power to the motor. RAD optimized 250 watt Bafang planetary geared hub motor feels powerful but smooth, you can adjust the top speed down from 25km/h in the settings menu. Large aluminum alloy folding pedals feel solid, alloy chainring guide keep your pants clean and prevents chain drops

  • Wide 11 to 34 tooth gearing makes it easy to pedal up steep hills and comfortable to maintain ~25km/h top assisted speeds without feeling outpaced, large thumb shifter is intuitive but a little difficult to reach compared to triggers. The new twist assist design feels good and overrides pedal assist levels 1-4 for full power as long as you're pedaling. Full sized 1 amp USB charging port below display, excellent kickstand placement, large selection of racks and accessories that are cross-compatible with other RPB models
