The Nukeproof Solum: Pump or jump, it’ll do both, Re-engineered and re-imagined, our dirt jumper is ready for the playground. An athlete favorite but rare find, only a small number of Nukeproof Solum dirt jumpers made it to out to market when we first built the bike in 2013. Now it’s back. Re-engineered to embrace new manufacturing techniques and the development of both BMX and mountain bikes, the new Solum is a 26-inch DJ bike built from a tough aluminum frame honed for big air and hot laps on the pump track. How it Rides, The Solum’s return may or may not have something to do with a new pump track getting built near Nukeproof’s HQ in Belfast, Northern Ireland, but regardless of our motives — the bike’s a ripper. While the original Solum was steel, the new Solum takes advantage of custom hydroformed 6061 triple-butted tubing. This minimizes frame weight while maximizing strength and directional stiffness in critical areas, improving power transfer when pumping the bike. We’ve also added a fully forged yoke to the rear triangle, beefing up the strength to weight ratio. The custom yoke is designed to handle up to 2.3-inch tires and maximizes chainring clearance. We recommend starting with a 30t-13t gearing, but the Solum will fit up to a 32t chainring. It’s a frame built tough yet weighs in at a respectable 4.76 lbs (regular). The Solum comes in two lengths — regular and long — with both sizes optimized around a 100mm travel fork. The two sizes are designed to cater not only to rider’s heights, but also the intended use. A regular frame may be better suited for riders focusing on the pump track, making manuals easier and allowing for a faster change of direction. Longer frames may be more suited for DJ riders looking for optimum stability. All frames feature horizontal dropouts with tensioners so you can perfect chain tension or adjust the wheelbase (slam it for street or pump track and lengthen it for the jumps). We’re only offering the Solum as a frame only so trick it out how you want. Whatever you do with it, it’s ready for the playground.
