Summary
The Genesis Fugio is a versatile gravel bike praised for its robust steel frame and go-anywhere capability, offering a fun and stable ride off-road. However, its weight and sluggish performance on tarmac and steep climbs have drawn mixed reactions. The bike excels in handling and comfort on rough terrain but may not satisfy those looking for speed or efficiency on paved surfaces.
Reynolds 725 steel tubing for strength
Versatile off-road capability
Superb grip from large-volume tyres
Stable and forgiving handling
Mounts for racks and bags enhancing utility
Heavy weight affects speed and climbing efficiency
Sluggish on tarmac
Tyres and wheels add unnecessary weight
Price may not justify the spec for some
Off-road biased geometry limits road performance
This thing feels – to borrow another well-worn phrase from the 1990s – bomb proof.
It’s the cycling equivalent of a monster truck — almost nothing can stop it moving forwards, making it a massive amount of fun on the trails.
The Genesis Fugio is probably the closest you’ll come to a mountain bike before you just cut your losses and go all in.

The epitome of what makes gravel riding so fun, all wrapped up in a keenly priced, in your face paint package
Does it all
There are faster gravel bikes for road

The Genesis Fugio is probably the closest you’ll come to a mountain bike before you just cut your losses and go all in. Billed as the evolution of a road plus bike, we found it very capable on the roughest gravel we encountered, but both the weight and price left us feeling a little wanting. Saracen's new Levarg gravel bike range looks like a lot of fun for your money The best gravel and adventure bikes you can buy for under £1000 How to prepare for your first gravel race - kit, bike setup and training I was very excited to get the Genesis Fugio in for testing.

Go anywhere and everywhere on one of the few affordable 'road plus' machines. Buy if you want a bike that’ll get you anywhere but don’t fancy a mountain bike
Will roll over anything
Overall weight and sluggish wheels make it slow going on anything but dirt
