Two Wheeling Tots
Specialized Riprock 20 and 24 Review

nov 2023 · Natalie Martins

More trail worthy than previous models, the 2022 Specialized Riprock 20 and 24 sport some great improvements, but stop short of perfection.

Highs
  • Hydraulic disc brakes with adjustable reach levers

  • Microshift Advent 9-speed trigger shifters with clutch derailleur

  • Lightweight rigid fork (base model)

  • Slacker, more modern geometry with 68° head tube angle

  • Dropper post compatible (even 20")

  • Ground Control 2.35" tires with good traction

  • Reasonable price ($700 for 24" base)

Lows
  • Low stack height makes it too aggressive for timid riders

  • Seat post cannot be slammed fully; minimum seat height higher than recommended by Specialized

  • Handlebar width too wide for some kids (600mm on 20", 620mm on 24")

  • Weight relatively heavy (22.6 lb / 24.7 lb for base models)

  • Riprock Expert is expensive ($1,500)

  • Suspension fork on Expert may add weight
