Summary
The Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt is a versatile trail bike praised for its efficient climbing, playful yet capable downhill performance, and comfortable all-day ride quality. Its balanced geometry and Smoothlink suspension system contribute to snappy handling and a smooth ride. While it excels on flowy singletrack and technical climbs, some riders may find it less suited for aggressive descents or prefer updates like tubeless-ready rims and a dropper post.

Excellent climbing efficiency and technical climbing agility
Comfortable upright seated position
Remote CTD lever for on-the-fly suspension adjustment
Supple Fox RP23 shock with progressive curve
Snappy corner exits when ridden actively
Zero frame issues over three months

XT brakes fade in extended steep/chunky terrain due to small rotors
No dropper post (resolved on 2015 models)
Stock tires (Continental X-King 2.2") inadequate in wet/technical conditions
