2023 Juliana Furtado MX Review

Nov 2022

Three Months on the Little Bike that Could

Highs
  • Playful and poppy feeling, encourages jumping and pumping

  • Excellent cornering stability and responsiveness

  • Capable on technical terrain for its travel

  • Confidence inspiring on small to medium jumps

  • Great traction on climbs due to reduced anti-squat

  • Maneuverable in tight technical climbing sections

  • Good fit for smaller riders with women-specific touchpoints and lighter shock tune

Lows
  • Rockshox Reverb seatpost needed frequent servicing (squish issue)

  • I9 hub bearings suffered premature wear (over-preloading issue, resolved by i9)

  • Carbon saddle rails broke after 5 rides

  • Narrow stock bars (760mm) too narrow for some

  • Short cockpit can cause knee hitting shifter on tight climbs

  • Not ideal for steep, chunky terrain at slower speeds; suspension feels harsh when braking into features

  • Faster chunky terrain feels chattery when braking

  • Climbing slightly slower (2 min slower on a 45-min climb) compared to 29er

  • Lockout switch hard to reach due to water bottle placement

  • No saddle sores after three days

  • Glovebox tool storage

Lows
  • 760mm bars may be narrow for some riders on a medium frame

  • 32T chainring preferred 30T for better gear range

  • Lock-out lever awkward to reach with bottle cage

  • Tube sleeve too small for a tube

  • Rear wheel rolls slower on flats compared to 29er
