Aventon Pace 5 REC review: A powerful 750W cruiser with excellent range, smart security features, and highly refined ride quality.
The Pace 5’s programming and power delivery are a perfect pairing; the bike has ample power but dishes it out effectively and responsively, making pedaling easy without feeling scary.
Its theft prevention features are top-notch, offering riders peace of mind through integrated wheel and battery locks, a motion detection and alarm system, GPS location tracking, and more.
Aventon built in loads of customization options available through the Aventon app, including motor tuning, torque and cadence sensing modes, granular speed adjustment, and more.
Handling feels well-balanced between relaxed and sharp; the city cruiser design and handlebars pair well with the lively motor and rigid fork.
Its performance was great, with above-average results in nearly all areas of our testing.
The bike is generally well-equipped for its price, with integrated lights and turn signals, a color display, and even an optional regenerative braking feature with two modes.
It’s tough to deny the bike’s sharp looks and big personality. Aventon’s choice of five color options ensures a bike for just about everyone.
While it was designed with a focus on comfort and largely pulls that off, an included suspension seatpost would complete its vision.

The Aventon Pace 5 REC returns to the comfort-first cruiser geometry that made the original Pace series so popular, pairing swept-back handlebars and a step-through frame with a powerful 750W motor (peaking at 1,440W in Boost Mode) that makes this one of the punchiest lightweight cruisers on the market today.
At around 60 lbs with the battery installed, the Pace 5 REC is lighter than most of Aventon's other models, and that lighter weight combines with the upgraded motor to create a riding experience that feels incredibly responsive, peppy, and fun - yet still very smooth and controlled even at full power output.
The Pace 5 REC doesn't include a suspension seat post - a minor but notable omission given that Aventon has included one on most of their other bikes in recent years - though the bike more than makes up for it with an impressive tech package that includes the Aventon ACU, 4G/GPS connectivity, regenerative braking, Apple Watch compatibility, and over-the-air firmware updates, all for $1,799.
In real-world range testing, the Pace 5 REC delivered nearly 50 miles in Turbo mode - an impressive result - and the 733Wh battery with regenerative braking makes this one of the more efficient cruisers in its class, with a manufacturer-claimed range of up to 75 miles in Eco. See Latest Price

Excellent motor performance. Strong power, smooth engagement, and enough control to handle varied trail situations confidently. Boost mode is a nice bonus, but even the standard settings already feel plenty capable.
Excellent handling. The Current strikes a nice balance between stability and playfulness. Its geometry, full 29” wheel setup, and mixed-frame construction help it feel confident with most trail scenarios.
One of the best eMTB values out there. Mixed carbon/aluminum frame, electronic SRAM shifting, Maven brakes, touchscreen display, ACU features, and strong motor performance, the value is hard to ignore.
Great braking power/performance. One of the more powerful brakes out there let you push the bike hard with a great counterbalance in place.
Advanced security features with 4g connectivity. GPS tracking, geofencing, alarms for unusual activity, etc. Uncommon amount of security on an eMTB.
Nice suspension. The RockShox Lyrik Select fork and Super Deluxe Select+ shock strike a good balance between plushness and support. It’s a comfortable and capable setup that should work well for most trail riders.
Great range and hill-climbing power. Excellent numbers across our standardized testing.
PAS controller buttons are pretty stiff and gave me a couple of missfires.
Non-removable battery. Not uncommon on eMTBs, but this would be a great wishlist item for the next generation.

Compared to the rear-hub Level 4 REC, the ADV offers many upgrades to justify its higher price, including better components, a bigger battery, and even more cool tech.
It’s ideal for those with range anxiety, giving us one of the best Range Test results we’ve seen from similar commuter-style e-bikes.

It can be ridden as a fully automatic e-bike, with a tunable auto shifting mode and an Auto assist level.
Aventon offers a total of five frame sizes between the high step (HS) and step-thru (ST) frame styles, each equipped with an adjustable stem. This allows it to fit riders 5’ 3” to well over 6’ 3”.
Its ride is smooth, comfortable, and off-road-friendly thanks to its 50mm suspension seatpost and 100mm suspension fork.
The bike’s handling is excellent, with a sporty, sharp, and responsive feel that matches its appearance and speed capabilities.
While the Tektro hydraulic brakes performed well, we encourage Aventon to use a system that enables brake lights in the future.
The bike’s electronic shifting is cool, but somewhat limiting. Multiple gear changes require some advance planning and time.
