Rob's slackened Stache is a bittersweet reminder of both how awesomely fun these bikes are and how deserving the platform is of a progressive geometry reimaging by Trek.
Unique aesthetic and sliding dropouts
Fun, confidence-inspiring ride
Elevated chainstay is quiet
Balanced stiffness with big tires and appropriate fork
Min-max build with high-value components (I9 1/1 hubs, Magura MT5 brakes, Race Face cranks)
Outdated geometry - steep head angle and short chainstays
Trek cancelled good Plus tires (SE4/SE2)
Tire selection for 29+ is limited
Stock tires (Chupacabra/XR2) have weak sidewalls
Frame not stiff in rear end
No geometry updates after initial release

Technical climbing
Endless grip

Rear tire clearance
Brakes not up to par

The rugged Trek Full Stache 8 can pretty much go anywhere and roll over anything, making it the human-powered equivalent of a Land Rover.
Go-anywhere attitude with crazy levels of security and traction
Feels slower and heavier at times compared to ‘normal’ mountain bikes

Crikey, what on earth is this!? The words; 'full suspension', '29er' and 'plus tyres' just should never combine in one sentence, there's not enough space! Well, Trek has clearly ignored what you shouldn't do and have produced a bike that would seem impossible.
Limitless traction.
Easy to ride on hard trails.
Bloody good fun.
Big wheel woes.
Very terrain specific.
